Support Comics
Here are some of the support acts or MCs for our comedy nights in Newcastle!

Brendon Knott

Brendon Knott
Brendon started performing stand up comedy in 2004 and quickly established himself as a talented performer, appearing regularly at comedy clubs across NSW. Brendon has been described as "the boy next door with a demonic twist". His acerbic, witty and intelligent material covers a massive variety of topics and while not always for the faint hearted, Brendon personally guarantees you will never forget his hilarious performance (NB: Guarantee is contingent on audience members taking large quantities of a highly dangerous memory enhancing drug).

Brendon's comedy is consistently of a high standard, and he has been either a finalist or semi finalist in most of the major national comedy competitions in Australia over the past 4 years. He has performed stand up on television ('Dolphin Juice', 2006) and his material has been broadcast on many radio stations across NSW including triple J, 2DAY-FM, NEW-FM, NX-FM and ABC Newcastle.

Over the past 4 years Brendon has performed for a wide variety of audiences and venues, including comedy clubs, pubs, corporate events, universities and once at a backyard party that he'd rather forget.

Clinton Starrett

Clinton Starrett
Clinton Starrett is a very funny person. He sometimes says funny things and sometimes he doesn't.

Sometimes he makes funny sounds and emits funny smells, in fact many may say that that is his specialty.

Hannah Gissane

Hannah Gissane
Hannah has an undying passion for comedy and wishes to sweep audiences into her polemical worldview using the powers of quirkiness and bubbly oratory. Hannah's comedy is basically absurd obsevrations about the beautiful/disgusting world we live in...

Having performed for the first time in 2008, Hannah has quickly established herself as a brilliant young performer, making regular appearances at venues across Newcastle and Sydney. In her first year of performing, she has proven to be one of the brightest new comics on the comedy scene, winning the Coopers Comedy Challenge and being a finalist in the Roxbury Hotel's 'Quest for the Best' comedy competition.

Ray Badran

Ray Badran
In 2007 after a number of failed jobs, Ray decided to become a comedian. Ray placed in the finals of almost every comedy competition there is for new comics and started getting booked at various comedy clubs shortly after. He is a regular host of comedy trivia and now works with Templar Entertainment - a TV and Film production company.

With a natural love of fun and laughter, Ray is a regular performer at The Laugh Garage Comedy Clubs, the Sydney Comedy Store and many other venues.

Rob Bukey

Rob Bukey
Rob Bukey is a self confessed nerd and wannabe primary teacher. At the ripe age of 21 he doesn't want to grow old out of fears he might bust. Instead he wishes he was seven years younger so he could trade pokemon cards, wear those shoes with the wheel in the heel and ask Miley Cyrus on a date. While his friends are bringing cheese platters and dips to parties he is still bringing fairy bread. He discovered he was a nerd at the age of ten. When gay people figure out their sexuality they come out of the closest, Rob discovered he was a nerd by not coming out of the house at all. After years of hardcore computer use he has injured his back by sitting at the computer for too long. Consequently he can't sit down for long periods of time. He took up stand up comedy purely for the irony.

His early comic experience were producing funny tapes for his friends and family. Overall he has produced nine comedy cd's and tapes which is quite an achievement for somebody with no musical talent, very similar to the achievements of Britney Speers. His current CD of rap music for nerds which is a genre known as Nerdcore hip-hop or Geeksta rap, can be downloaded at www.myspace.com/mcrsi.

Matt Jelenic

Matt Jelenic
This curly haired Novocastrian is a newcomer in the world of organised stand up comedy.

When asked why he thought he could be a stand-up comedian he responded "Well I've been standing since I was little and have it pretty much worked out; I figure I have half the battle won already."

Matt is a guy who takes joy in finding the connections between things such as love, life, dildos and Batman. Often strange, usually absurd and occasionally intelligent Matt is the sort of comedian who is willing to throw himself out there for the benefit of a good laugh and a good night out.

Worst case scenario: you see a good example of how to stand upright. He's been doing it since he was a kid y'know.

JABEZ

JABEZ
Quite new to stand up, Jabez hopes to write witty and classic humour, however is rarely able to get his mind out of the gutter which usually results in jokes about sex.

FUN FACTS ABOUT JABEZ

Really hates being called Paul
Never puts sauce on meat pies
Single
A Gemini but feels trapped in an Aquarius body
Doesn't feel at all awkward about writing a bio about himself in the third person

Soame Chopra

SOAME
Soame has officially been doing stand-up since about 2004 although he's been entertaining friends at parties and around dinner tables all of his life.

He has performed at pubs and clubs around Newcastle, as well as private parties and corporate events.

Soame was a finalist in the 2009 Coopers’ Comedy Challenge in Newcastle.

Always looking for a laugh and a funny angle on things, Soame considers himself to be a master punster and has come out with some of the best, and indeed some of the worst puns ever conceived.

Prior to beginning stand-up in Newcastle, Soame presented a one hour comedy show called The Bright Side, on Port Stephens FM community radio for two and a half years, where he built up quite a following.

Soame has been told that he has a presence on stage, is witty and intelligent, and is more of a story teller than a gag maker.
